This new addition serves several purposes to the homeowners; they never really liked the blandness of the former entry, as it lacked any sense of welcome, importance, or even protection from the weather. The new addition provides a protective canopy over the entry door. Above the canopy is a new quilt room on the second floor and a new third level deck. The stainless steel tiles which clad the exterior attempt to symbolically combine the respective hobbies of the homeowners: quilting and digital star gazing. One is low tech, one high, and a "quilt" made of stainless steel tiles combines a high tech cladding system with a visual pattern reminiscent of the fabric quilts inside.
